Toshio Nakanishi, alias Tycoon Tosh, alias Toshi Skylab was born in 1956 and created his first band the Plastiks in 1976. He was a part of techno pop fever in Japan and very importantly a pioneer of Japanese Hip Hop scene. He toured with his band with the likes of the Talking Heads and the B-52’s.
Nakanishi is a guitarist, a percussionist as well as a painter. As a matter of fact he was working on designs for a book being made for Talking Heads' Japanese tour and gave David Byrne their demo tape who passed it along to the B-52's manager. They played a number of shows in NYC and ended up with an international deal with Island Records. Unfortunately, internal conflicts forced the band to break up.
He went to UK, and in 1993 Toshio Nakanish iformed an ambient / electronica band called Sky Lab with Mat Ducasse and Howie B. Let’s call the genre post-psychedelic for the sake of today’s blog for which I picked the artist’s 12” double LP named Skylab #1 (L’Attitude Ltd./Phonogram (London), UK Import.)
The graphics and artwork on the inner sleeves is done by the Toshi
Skylab himself. The cover with the picture of spacecraft was designed by Oliver Fuller.

The blue cover in the middle with the graphic of a space craft is the main record cover with front and backs of the two LPs on either side.
