Mondays are shaped and picture disc days. So here's one of my favorites. It's a cut-out picture disc by Prince that represents the symbol that replaced his name. He wasn't the first artist to do so. Fruer, as I mentioned in Sunday's blog that is specifically devoted to textured record covers, had a snaky squiggle before CBS insisted on a pronounceable name.
This shaped picture disc contains an ordinary grooved centre, typically the same  as a standard 7-inch but with a non-grooved outer rim that has been cut out to the Logo used by Prince.  In a side note, what was even more sought after among record collectors and enthusiats alike were the uncut test pressings of these discs in their original 12-inch form with the clear vinyl surrounds still intact.
