Released in 1967, ‘Are You Experienced’ was a hugely successful debut album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. They played psychedelic rock, acid rock, hard rock, or what have you rock. The group consisted of the American, Jimi Hendrix on guitar (of course), Noel Redding on vocals and Mitch Mitchell on drums, both from the UK.
Try to imagine how it would feel to watch this guitar genius at work as I did. I was 17 years old. I was fortunate enough to see him in 1968 for $2.75, General Admission at Electric Factory in Philadelphia. It was the first first time I experienced strobe lights. They put up a fantastic light show that was created by dropping oil based ink in water and projecting it on a screen behind the band with an overhead projector. Very little technology was required to create this amazing spaced out experience.
I was blown away. The opening act was the Soft Machine, a band that at that time consisted of a keyboard player, a bass player and a drummer in a g-string. Like Hendrix they also played psychedelic rock. Keep in mind that this was before the synthesizer was invented so the keyboard player had to get all his inventive sounds out of an electric organ.

Ferris. The background of the photo is maniputaled to look trippy with the usual psychedelic type face used forrecord cover titles in that era.
